City Bus Stops in Burla in a State of Neglect
Sambalpur: The city bus stops across Burla, from the town entrance to the bus drop-off points along the National Highway, are in poor condition. Most of them are either damaged or lack basic facilities.
Roof of Hirakud Bus Stop Gone
Even the city bus stop in front of Hirakud Railway Station has lost its roof completely. Since many trains stop at Hirakud station, hundreds of passengers use this bus stop daily. However, with no shelter available, commuters are forced to wait on the roadside under the scorching sun.
No Shelter, No Relief
Although these are designated bus stops, they fail to provide even minimal protection. In the intense heat, passengers have no choice but to stand exposed. Meanwhile, neither the district administration nor the municipal authorities have taken any steps to fix the issue.

Other Bus Stops Also in Bad Shape
The situation is the same at the bus stop near the Power Canal Bridge. Additionally, many buses stop at Overbridge Chowk, also known as Atal Chowk, where passengers frequently board or disembark. Unfortunately, no official bus stop exists at this location either, adding to commuter frustration.
Crowd Gathers at Atal Chowk
At Atal Chowk, a park is being constructed and a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee is being installed. As a result, the area draws large crowds, increasing the need for proper public facilities.
Citizens Demand Action
Local intellectuals and residents have demanded the immediate construction of a proper bus stop at Atal Chowk. They have also urged the authorities to renovate and maintain the other neglected bus stops throughout the city.
