Sambalpur: Car Driver Humiliates Student and Demands Rs. 5,000; Traffic Police Remain Silent Spectators

Student Faces Harassment Over Minor Accident

Sambalpur: In Sambalpur, a shocking incident occurred on the Budharaja-Ainthapali road, where a student faced public humiliation and harassment after his bike accidentally hit a car. The car driver demanded Rs. 5,000 from the student and even forced him to walk nearly half a kilometer on the road.

The Accident

Around 10 AM, an engineering student was riding his bike when an autorickshaw suddenly hit him from behind and sped away. Due to the impact, he lost control and accidentally collided with a moving car. The rear part of the car was slightly damaged.

Harassment by the Car Driver

Furious over the damage, the car driver started humiliating the student in front of onlookers. Some local people surrounded the student instead of helping him. The traffic police were present at the scene but did not intervene to stop the harassment.

Forced Walk & Ransom Demand

The situation escalated when the car driver made the student walk nearly half a kilometer while demanding Rs. 5,000 as compensation. Shockingly, he even called the student’s mother and sister from the student’s phone, threatening not to release him until the money was paid.

Family’s Helpless Situation

The student’s father had already passed away, his sister worked out of town, and his mother was bedridden due to an accident. Despite knowing this, the car driver and others ignored his pleas.

Rescue & Police Response

Finally, a relative of the student arrived at the scene and managed to rescue him. Although the traffic police were present, they only tried to pacify the angry mob instead of preventing the harassment. Locals have accused the police of being silent spectators in such incidents.
