Illegal Use of Loud Silencers Increases
Sambalpur: Sambalpur, like many other districts in the state, is witnessing a rapid increase in the use of loud silencers on bikes. Despite strict government regulations, these noisy modifications continue unchecked. Many bikers install these silencers just for personal excitement, creating deafening sounds and riding at high speeds. As a result, pedestrians and other commuters are facing serious risks on the roads. Some bikes even produce sounds as loud as gunshots, adding to the chaos. Unfortunately, although the state government has imposed strict rules, their enforcement remains weak in the city.
Residents Suffer from Extreme Noise Pollution
In Sambalpur, high-speed biking and excessive noise pollution have become common. Many bikers attach modified silencers to their motorcycles, making unnecessary loud noises and causing immense disturbance. The excessive honking of high-decibel horns is also worsening the situation. The impact is severe, especially on elderly people, heart patients, children, and pregnant women. Despite repeated complaints from residents, the traffic police have taken no strict action. Moreover, similar problems are also occurring in Burla, adding to the frustration of the public.

Public Demand for Immediate Action
Local resident Basudev Sahu expressed his concern, emphasizing that immediate action is necessary to control this growing issue. He pointed out that loud noises at crowded markets are forcing people to cover their ears while walking. The suffering of the common people has reached its peak, and they are demanding a strong crackdown on violators.
Government Rules Not Being Enforced Properly
Although the state government has issued strict directives to curb this problem, their implementation in Sambalpur remains poor. According to Traffic Inspector Chandramohan Singh, over 50 bikes with illegal silencers were seized last month. However, due to other pressing duties, inspections were not conducted this month. He assured that stricter enforcement would follow soon, and offenders would be penalized.
Residents hope that authorities will take swift action to restore peace and safety on the roads before the situation worsens further.
