Sambalpur: Family Takes Backseat to Patriotism; Soldier Returns to Duty Leaving Postpartum Wife in ICU, Volunteers Extend Help by Donating Four Units of Blood

Sambalpur: A BSF jawan came home on a month-long leave to be with his pregnant wife. However, as tensions rose between India and Pakistan, his leave was canceled. Just days after the birth of his daughter, he had to leave his critically ill wife in the ICU and return to duty.

Wife’s Health Deteriorates After Childbirth

Devraj Gand, a BSF jawan from Tengnamal village in Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district, returned home for his wife Lipi’s delivery. On April 28, Lipi gave birth to a baby girl at a hospital in Jharsuguda. While the newborn was healthy, Lipi’s health worsened due to a lung infection.

Emergency Treatment at Vimsar, Burla

On April 29, doctors shifted Lipi to the gynecology department at Vimsar, Burla. Her condition was serious, so she was admitted to the ICU. She has now been under intensive care for 13 days. Meanwhile, due to growing border tensions, the army canceled all leaves, and Devraj had to return to his post in Jammu and Kashmir leaving behind his newborn and ailing wife.

Volunteers Donate Blood to Save Lipi

At this critical time, Lipi urgently needed blood. Responding to an appeal made by Gunamani Biswal, Bureau Chief of “Prameya News 7” Sambalpur, several volunteers came forward. Social workers Laxmiprasad Mahapatra, Bulu Nayak, Dr. Oram, and Kshirod Nayak donated four units of blood to help save her life.

Public Demands Advanced Medical Care for Soldier’s Wife

The incident has stirred emotional reactions. Many people are urging authorities to provide the best possible treatment for Lipi, the wife of a jawan who returned to the warzone despite personal tragedy.

Prof. Dr. Bhavagrahi Rath, Vimsar Director, and Prof. Dr. Lal Mohan Nayak, Medical Superintendent, have personally overseen Lipi and her baby’s treatment. According to Prof. Nayak, Lipi’s condition is improving. Her lungs are healing, and dialysis is ongoing. He assured that she would receive top-level care. If needed, a special medical team will also be formed.
