Sambalpur: Illegal Use of Domestic Cooking Gas in Sambalpur; Supply Department Remains Silent

Sambalpur: The black market for domestic cooking gas is growing rapidly in different areas of Sambalpur. Instead of being used for household purposes, these gas cylinders are being widely misused for commercial gains. Due to the lack of strict monitoring by the supply department, this illegal practice is increasing day by day.

Hotels and Restaurants Using Domestic Gas

According to reports, many tea stalls, snack shops, hotels, and restaurants are extensively using domestic gas cylinders. In fast-food stalls selling tea, snacks, and chowmin, multiple domestic cylinders are being used. These cylinders, meant for household cooking, are now being used commercially.

Why Business Owners Prefer Domestic Cylinders

Although commercial gas cylinders are available for businesses, their higher price makes them less attractive. The 19-kg commercial cylinders do not sell well because they are expensive and lack government subsidies. As a result, business owners prefer to buy domestic cylinders at lower prices. Some business owners even use their employees to purchase cylinders under the pretense of household use.

Misuse of Ujjwala Scheme Cylinders

In some places, cylinders distributed under the Ujjwala Yojana are being illegally purchased and used in hotels and restaurants. This is completely illegal. Despite being aware of this situation, department officials are reportedly ignoring the issue. Many believe that their inaction is causing significant financial losses to the government.
