Sambalpur: Knee-Deep Water at SMC Office in Burla; Incomplete Road Construction Causes Waterlogging, No Urgency in Drainage

Rainwater Floods City Due to Incomplete Road Work

Sambalpur: Burla town is currently facing severe mismanagement. Several road construction projects remain incomplete, and with continuous rainfall, water is now collecting in many areas. As a result, residents are struggling to move around and access important locations.

SMC Office Itself Waterlogged

Ironically, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) branch office in Burla is surrounded by rainwater. Despite being an important office, no serious effort has been made to drain the water. People visiting the office are being forced to wade through knee-deep water just to enter the premises.

Roads Left Half-Constructed

Due to the eviction of illegal structures, many old roads have been dismantled. However, authorities have failed to construct new ones. Because of this, large areas near demolished spots and open spaces are getting flooded, creating artificial ponds.

No Drainage Effort Even After Water Accumulates

Although SMC officials are aware of the issue, they have not taken any meaningful steps to drain the water. Locals allege that there is no urgency or concern even when their own office is under water.

Incomplete Roads May Worsen Future Waterlogging

If heavy rains continue, residents fear the entire town could suffer from waterlogging. The incomplete and poorly managed roads will only add to the problem. Many roads in Burla have turned into muddy pits, trapping rainwater and making movement extremely difficult.

Citizens Demand Immediate Drainage and Monitoring

People are now questioning how the administration plans to handle waterlogging in the future if even their main office is neglected. They are urging both the district administration and SMC to act quickly and put proper drainage systems in place before the situation worsens.
