Sambalpur: The Orthopaedics Department at Burla Vimsar has achieved another milestone. For the first time, the hospital has successfully started ligament reconstruction surgery. This advanced medical service has now become available within Vimsar itself.

Modern ACL Surgery Now Available

The surgery focuses on reconstructing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), which connects the thigh bone (femur) and the shin bone (tibia) inside the knee. Earlier, patients from western Odisha had to travel to Cuttack or Bhubaneswar for this treatment. Moreover, private hospitals charge around Rs. 2 to Rs. 3 lakhs for such procedures.

Now Free of Cost at Vimsar

In contrast, Vimsar is offering this surgery completely free of cost. Doctors are using a newly acquired arthroscopy machine to carry out the procedure with advanced techniques.

First Successful Surgery Completed

Today, a 35-year-old man from the Them area of Sambalpur successfully underwent this surgery. A team of doctors performed the operation under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Brajamohan Sahu and Prof. P.K. Merli.
