Sambalpur to Get 12,000 Dustbins
Sambalpur: Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has decided to install 12,000 dustbins to tackle the long-standing issue of cleanliness in the city. The tender process has already been completed. In the first phase, authorities will place 400 dustbins at key locations and along major roads. Gradually, they will install more dustbins across the city. Municipal Commissioner Vedbhushan has confirmed that all dustbins will be made of stainless steel.
People Have Been Paying Taxes but Facing Issues
It has been more than 11 years since the Municipal Corporation was formed. During this time, tax collection from residents has increased significantly. However, despite paying taxes, people have not received the essential services they expected. Drainage problems and waste management remain major concerns for the citizens.
Even though garbage collection vehicles operate in the city, waste continues to pile up on the roadsides. Many residents complain that these vehicles do not collect garbage regularly, leading to unhygienic conditions.

Previous Dustbins Were Damaged or Lost
Years ago, the Municipal Corporation had placed iron and plastic dustbins at different locations. However, over time, many of these dustbins were damaged or went missing. In several places, there is no sign of the old dustbins. As a result, people dump their waste on the roads, making the city even dirtier.
Government Investing Heavily in Cleanliness
The government has been taking major steps to improve cleanliness, spending huge amounts of money on sanitation projects. However, due to poor implementation of these schemes by the Municipal Corporation, waste management remains a challenge in the city.
Citizens Welcome the Initiative
Now, with the Municipal Corporation taking action to install new dustbins, many intellectuals and social activists have welcomed this move. People hope that this initiative will help improve cleanliness in Sambalpur and make the city a better place to live.
