Minister Calls ‘Mo’ an Arrogant Word
The name of the ‘Mo Bus’ service will soon change. Instead of ‘Mo Bus,’ the name will now be ‘Ama Bus.’ The process to implement this change will start very soon, according to Urban Development Minister Dr. Krushna Chandra Mohapatra. He also stated that ‘Mo’ (meaning ‘My’) is an arrogant word, and replacing it with ‘Ama’ (meaning ‘Our’) will make the name more inclusive and appropriate.
Minister’s Statement on the Name Change
On Friday, the minister spoke to the media and expressed his concerns about the name ‘Mo Bus.’ He said that the name troubled him because it sounded self-centered. Instead, using ‘Ama’ would reflect a sense of community and shared ownership. Therefore, he has already instructed the concerned department to initiate the changes. Gradually, the stickers on the buses will be replaced. Moreover, the newly arriving buses from depots will directly carry the updated name.
Addressing Frequent Accidents
The minister also spoke about the frequent accidents involving ‘Mo Bus.’ He pointed out that in many cases, other vehicles caused the accidents, but because ‘Mo Bus’ is a large vehicle, it often gets blamed. To address this issue, authorities will install cameras around the buses.

Additionally, the government will introduce ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) chips to reduce accidents by 60-70%. These chips will provide a 360-degree view of the surroundings, allowing drivers to see everything around the bus. During an emergency, the system will activate automatic braking, stopping the bus immediately. A screen in front of the driver will display real-time visuals of the road, alerting them to any potential dangers. Moreover, if two vehicles get too close or if an accident risk is detected, the system will automatically adjust the bus to avoid the collision.
Frequent Accidents Raise Safety Concerns
Currently, ‘Mo Bus’ services operate in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Rourkela. However, accidents happen almost every day, causing severe injuries and loss of lives. So far, more than 15 people have died in such accidents. Most of these accidents occur due to driving errors.
To improve safety and prevent further casualties, the authorities are taking serious measures. The new name, ‘Ama Bus,’ will not only change the identity of the service but also emphasize shared responsibility for passenger safety and efficient public transport.
