Sambalpur: Notorious Criminal Injured in Police Encounter in Sambalpur; Mahesh Kumar Hospitalized in Burla After Being Shot in The Leg

Sambalpur: A well-known criminal, Mahesh Kumar, was injured in a police encounter early today morning at Lamadunguri under Ainthapali police limits in Sambalpur.

Police Track Mahesh and Attempt Arrest

For some time, police had been closely monitoring Mahesh’s movements. Finally, they received a tip-off about his location near Lamadunguri. Without delay, a police team rushed to the spot to arrest him.

As soon as Mahesh noticed the police, he attempted to escape. However, instead of surrendering, he fired at the officers. In response, the police retaliated, shooting him in the left leg. Afterward, they rescued him and immediately admitted him to Vimsar in Burla for medical treatment.

Weapons and Cash Seized

During the operation, the police recovered a firearm, Rs. 40,000 in cash, and two empty cartridges from the encounter site.

Mahesh’s Criminal Background

Mahesh is a repeat offender with several criminal cases registered against him in various police stations across Sambalpur and Bargarh districts. Additionally, just on Monday, he allegedly snatched Rs. 45,000 from a person at gunpoint.

Further Investigation Underway

Currently, police are investigating the incident further. They are also looking into Mahesh’s past crimes and possible links with other criminals.
