Fake Kidney Specialist Exploiting Patients
Sambalpur: Patients are now facing a serious issue, unqualified doctors posing as kidney specialists. A so-called kidney disease expert has been running a fake medical practice, exploiting patients in both government and private hospitals. Reports suggest that this doctor, associated with Vimsar (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research), has been treating kidney patients despite lacking proper qualifications.
Violation of Medical Regulations
According to NMC (National Medical Commission) regulations, a doctor with an MD in Medicine can only practice general medicine. However, to become a super-specialist in nephrology (kidney diseases), they must complete an additional three-year DM (Doctorate of Medicine) program. Unfortunately, this particular doctor, despite not having the required DM qualification, has been presenting himself as a kidney specialist and treating unsuspecting patients.
Deceptive Practices and Social Media Promotion
Not only is he treating patients, but he is also actively promoting himself on social media. Reports indicate that he has been posting misleading advertisements to attract kidney patients. Despite being an Assistant Professor at Vimsar on a contract basis, he spends most of his time at private nursing homes rather than in the government hospital.

Running a Private Clinic and Referring Patients to Nursing Homes
This doctor has openly set up a private clinic in Burla, where he allegedly collaborates with middlemen to bring in patients. Instead of referring critical patients to a medical college or specialized hospitals, he diverts them to private nursing homes in Burla, Sambalpur, and Bargarh.
Violation of Medicine Sales Rules
As per the NMC 2023 guidelines, registered doctors cannot run pharmacies to sell medicines. They are only allowed to ensure that patients receive the correct prescribed medicines. Additionally, doctors must prescribe generic medicines instead of promoting specific pharmaceutical brands. However, this doctor has been openly violating these rules. Reports suggest that he is selling medicines directly from his clinic, disregarding legal regulations.
Official Statement from Vimsar
Currently, Dr. Saurabh Srishti is the only qualified nephrologist at Vimsar. He is the only one authorized to diagnose and treat kidney-related diseases. Vimsar’s Director has confirmed that no other doctor in the institution holds the necessary qualifications to be a kidney specialist. Therefore, any other doctor claiming to be a kidney expert is misleading patients and violating medical ethics.
Urgent Action Needed
This serious issue demands immediate attention from health authorities. Patients must be cautious and verify the credentials of any doctor before seeking treatment. The authorities should take strict action against those exploiting innocent patients and violating medical norms.
