Frequent Power Cuts Raise Concerns
Sambalpur: Even before the peak summer heat arrives, Tata Power’s erratic power supply has left residents frustrated. The Western Odisha Electricity Distribution Company, managed by Tata Power (TPWODL), has been making bold claims about improving services. However, the reality tells a different story. Frequent and unannounced power cuts have already started, causing inconvenience to the people.
Strict Actions Against Electricity Theft, But Poor Service
Tata Power has launched a strict campaign against electricity theft. The company is disconnecting illegal connections and imposing heavy fines. Additionally, if customers fail to pay their bills on time, they immediately receive disconnection notices. Even a single missed bill results in a warning in the next month’s bill. If payments are not cleared, Tata Power cuts off electricity without delay. While the company is aggressively focusing on revenue collection, its service quality remains poor.
Power Disruptions Due to Maintenance
The company is conducting maintenance work almost every month. However, instead of improving the power supply, the situation continues to worsen. Officials announce power cuts from 8 AM to 5 PM or sometimes from 2 PM onwards, but in reality, power remains unstable even beyond these scheduled hours. Despite regular maintenance, Sambalpur city frequently experiences power failures, and the situation in rural areas is even worse.

Rising Temperatures, Increasing Power Demand
With summer approaching, the demand for electricity is expected to rise as people use fans, coolers, and air conditioners more frequently. However, the current state of the power supply raises concerns about whether Tata Power can handle the increased load. Over the past three days, most areas in Sambalpur have experienced repeated power failures, leading to frustration among residents.
Growing Public Outrage Against Tata Power
People are losing patience with Tata Power’s inefficiency. Many are now openly criticizing the company and expressing their anger on social media. Some have even started using the phrase “Chi Chi Chi Re, Tata Power!”, mocking the company’s poor service.
If Tata Power continues to focus only on revenue collection while neglecting service quality, public dissatisfaction will only increase. This year, the number of unannounced power cuts is expected to rise significantly, making life difficult for the people of Sambalpur.
