Project Construction Delayed
Sambalpur: Sambalpur is set to get an Eco Tourism Park similar to Kolkata’s, offering various facilities. The project, located near Kuluthkani’s Haradjor Riverbank, was approved two years ago with a budget of Rs. 2 crore. However, despite initial enthusiasm, construction is still incomplete due to unnecessary delays.
What the Park Will Offer
The park is designed to provide entertainment and relaxation for residents. It will include an open gym for adults, a play area for children, and picnic spots with seating arrangements. Additionally, it aims to offer a natural environment within the city, making it a peaceful retreat for families.

Current Status: Work Half-Done
Although the park’s boundary wall and entrance gate are complete, most internal work remains unfinished. Some gym equipment is installed but in a disorganized state, and picnic areas are neglected. Furthermore, new materials have been purchased but left unused. Local residents are uncertain when the park will finally open.
Residents Express Disappointment
Local resident Ritesh Behera said that the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) had ambitious plans for the park, but even after two years, the public cannot use it. Rohit Kumar Sethi, another resident, mentioned that construction was progressing well initially but suddenly slowed down. He emphasized that Sambalpur lacks proper parks for children and families. Without this park, people have to travel far for recreational outings.
Officials Remain Silent
Surprisingly, SMC officials have little to no information about the project’s status. Even Sunil Kerketta, the Additional Commissioner of Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, admitted that he does not have any updates regarding the park’s progress. It remains unclear when or if the project will resume.
