Sambalpur: Woman Attacked by Family for Attending Prayer Meeting, Belongings Burned and Money Stolen

Sambalpur: A 30-year-old woman from Rengali Barapada was allegedly attacked by her own family members for attending a prayer meeting organized by ‘The Power of Truth’ fellowship in Kudopali. Although she had been living separately from her family, they strongly disapproved of her participation in the prayer meetings.

Family Burns Her Belongings

On May 21, while she was on her way to work, her brother entered her room, removed her belongings, and set them on fire. She later went to the Rengali police station and made a verbal complaint. That same day, she returned home with the police. However, after dropping her there, the police left.

She found that her important documents and clothes had been completely destroyed. Additionally, gold and silver ornaments, along with Rs. 6,000 in cash, were missing from her house.

Community Tries to Stop Her from Attending Prayers

Later that evening, the local community held a meeting, where they allegedly warned her and others not to attend the Kudopali prayer sessions again. During the meeting, some people verbally abused her. She also claimed that her sister-in-law and grandmother physically assaulted her.

Victim Seeks Shelter and Files Written Complaint

Fearing for her safety, she took shelter at another person’s house. Today, she submitted a written complaint at the Rengali police station. Following this, the police have registered a case and have started an investigation into the incident.

A young woman from Sambalpur has accused her family of assault and property destruction for attending a prayer meeting. While her valuables were burned and cash went missing, she now seeks justice and protection through police action.
