Three members of the family drowned in the river; Father-son corpse rescued, daughter missing
Sambalpur: An unfortunate incident has taken place at Daleipada Mahila Ghat in Mahanadi, Sambalpur. The father, Mohammed Al-Tathaf, 40, also went to rescue them when his son was floating in front of his daughter. The girl’s body is still missing, while her father’s body has been recovered.At around 4 pm on Monday, Mohammad Al-Tathaf, a resident of Pennasanpada in Sambalpur, went to the Daleipada Mahila Ghat on the Mahanadi to take a bath with his schoolgirl son Mohammad Aftab and daughter Ruksana Khatun. At the same time, a woman was bathing in the dock. Ruksana Khatun was swept away by the water shortly after entering the water. Brother Aftab jumped into the water to save his sister Ruksana. Unfortunately, he was swept away. At this point the woman bathing there screamed. Hearing the woman’s screams, Altai jumped at the same time to save her son and daughter. But he too was swept away.
Upon hearing the news, firefighters and town police arrived at the scene. Local fishermen, along with firefighters, began the search. At around 5.45pm, fishermen rescued Aftab from deep water about 50 meters from the scene. He was taken to Sadar Hospital in a police vehicle for treatment. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The rescue operation was temporarily halted due to darkness. The search began at 9 a.m. after lighting was set up. The fishermen rescued Mohammed Allataf with the help of a net. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. Ruksana was not found at the time of writing. Ruksana and Aftabh were studying in the seventh and tenth grades at the Hindi Nodal School, respectively.
