Sambalpur: SMC Contract Scandal, “If you buy a saree, you get the work”
Sambalpur: Fatal allegations regarding division of labor in Mukta Scheme. The group organization (CO) is asking for clothes, and money to help self-help groups. It has been accused of getting work by giving Sambalpuri sarees and clothes and it is said that those who do not pay then the self-help group will not get work. Some of the COs of Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation are working in such a way that the dissatisfaction is increasing. The deputy commissioner in charge of the scheme declined to respond.
In Sambalpur Metropolitan Corporation’s Mukta Scheme, 616 jobs have been completed. But till now 416 work orders have been distributed to SHG. Some work has also been completed. As of now, 575 SHGs have been registered in SMC. More than half of the group has not yet found a job. But each SHG is doing multiple jobs about which there is now a dispute.
Especially in Singhpali, Kainsir, Narsingh Temple of Badabazar, Govindtola, Kumbharpada, and Pensionpada Kalyan Mandap areas, it is alleged that such work is being done. A member of the self-help group said some COs are asking for Sambalpuri pata saree and clothes for work. SHG members are also forced to pay them. They are doing this to get a piece of work. As a result, most of the SHGs have not received a single piece of work to date. Therefore, the SMC authorities have demanded that action be taken against the CO who is showing such behavior. On the other hand, a senior officer of SMC has refused such allegations. He said that all the work is not done even by now. Everyone will get work.
