Sambalpur: Female Robber Gang; Targets Gold Jewelry in Deceptive Cleaning Scam
Sambalpur: A gang of female robbers has been discovered operating in Burla City, focusing mainly on stealing gold jewelry. The gang members approach households, posing as individuals offering to clean gold items. Allegedly, more than 10 bhari of gold jewelry have been stolen from six families. The police are actively searching for this women’s gang following complaints filed at Burla police station.
The women’s gang, recently spotted in Burla City, goes from house to house under the pretext of cleaning gold jewelry or gold articles. Those who entrust them with gold items for cleaning end up being deceived, with the gang allegedly stealing more than 10 bhari of gold jewelry from houses near the city’s high school grounds and Bishnu Mandir. Today, the concerned women gathered at Burla police station to file written complaints.
The gang, disguised as sellers of new cutlery in exchange for old ones and cleaners of gold and silver. Amina Khatun (45), of Bishnu Mandir, stated that a woman came to her house claiming to clean gold and silver items. This woman had previously taken old utensils from Amina’s house and replaced them with new ones. Amina trusted her and handed her gold and silver ornaments for cleaning, which included a gold ring, a gold nose ring, four earrings, two bangles, a Mangalsutra, a gold maang tikka, and a pair of silver ankle bracelets. However, Amina said that the woman deceitfully took away all of the gold and silver ornaments.
Anju Devi (30), Amina’s neighbor, also reported the theft of a Mangalsutra and two earrings. Other victims, including Ehabaad Najjat Sultana (46), Rita Devi (25), Ruby Mehto (25), Punam Devi (50), Usha Devi (47), Daulat Devi (40), Luchana Bagh (48), and Rekha Mehto (30), had gold and silver jewelry stolen by the robbers who subsequently fled. Today, the affected women collectively filed written complaints at the Burla police station. The police advise the public not to trust suspicious individuals offering cleaning services and to avoid inviting them into their homes.
