Big Breaking News: 21 Lakh SIM Cards Set to Deactivate Soon
Over 21 lakh SIM cards are set to become invalid due to fraudulent activities. The Department of Telecom’s AI and Digital Intelligence has discovered that these SIM cards were acquired using fake identity and address documents. Telecom giants like Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, BSNL, and MTNL have been alerted about this issue. They have been instructed to verify the authenticity of these SIM cards promptly. Those that fail to pass verification will be deactivated.
According to the Department of Telecom’s AI and Digital Intelligence Unit, these 21 lakh SIM cards were obtained using invalid, non-existent, or falsified documents. Additionally, in 1.92 crore cases, individuals hold more than the legally permissible limit of SIM cards, which is 9 per person. Some numbers have also been mistakenly categorized as private numbers by the companies.
In response to this revelation, telecom companies are urged to take immediate action to rectify the situation and ensure the integrity of their services.
