Sambalpur: Cyber fraudsters are targeting new voters, police warned

Sambalpur: Cyber fraudsters have used the election season to the fullest. They have started cheating in the name of adding names to the voter list. According to the information of Bhopal cyber crime cell officials, cyber criminals have defrauded 3 and a half lakh rupees from 3 people by saying this in a few months. In Odisha too, cyber fraudsters have started spreading their nets to cheat in this way. Fraudsters are targeting new voters to add their names to the voter list.

Calling and texting the new voter’s mobile number and giving various links to add the number. They are also calling and sending messages on social media such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and Telegram to add names to the list. If anyone is interested, they are also promised to provide a screenshot of the updated voter list as proof after adding their names. If someone is paying on their word, then they are no longer in touch.

According to information, such calls are being made mainly from the Jharkhand region. The list includes names like Palamu and Dumka from Jharkhand. Because of this, a warning message has been issued by the Sambalpur Police. In a social media post from SP Sambalpur’s account, ‘Don’t trust any unknown link or phone call to add your name to the voter list. “The Election Commission never charges any fee for updating names in the voter list,” it said.
