All Gates of Puri Jagannath Temple Opened as Promised by BJP Today
As promised in their election manifesto, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opened all four gates of the Puri Jagannath Temple for devotees on Thursday. The gates were opened during the Mangala Alati ritual in the presence of the Council of Ministers.
Just hours after being sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Odisha on Wednesday, Mohan Majhi held the first cabinet meeting of his government. In this meeting, he made four key decisions based on the BJP’s pre-election promises.
The three gates, which had been closed, were reopened at 6:30 am after the ‘Mangal Alati’ ritual of Lord Jagannath. Chief Minister Majhi, his two deputies, ministers, several BJP MPs, and party leaders visited the temple, offered prayers, and conducted a ‘parikrama’ around the temple complex.
Opening all the temple gates was a major promise in the BJP’s election manifesto. The previous BJD government had kept three out of four gates shut since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Why Were The Gates Shut?
During the Covid-19 pandemic, the doors of the temple were closed. Later, only the Singhadwara (Lion Gate) was reopened for devotees. However, the Ashwa Dwara (Horse Gate), Vyaghra Dwara (Tiger Gate), and Hasti Dwara (Elephant Gate) remained shut.
Due to this, there was a huge rush and long queues in front of the Singhadwara. Devotees had been demanding the reopening of all gates for smoother access to the Holy Trinity.
