Sambalpur: Affair Turns Deadly; Pregnant Wife Brutally Murders Husband with Lover’s Help in Rengali
Lover Was Given Rs. 500 For Liquor & Murder
Accused Woman Pregnant, Lover Also Married
Sambalpur: The lengths to which a woman will go for an illicit affair are unbelievable. In order to live with her lover and start a new life, she planned to murder her husband. She even gave her lover Rs. 500 to commit the murder. Despite their success in the murder, both ended up in prison.
The police revealed these details after discovering the murder of Nishamani Budhu, a Shyam Metalics employee, at the Rengali police station. According to SDPO Tofan Bag, the accused, Sukanti Budhu (35), who also filed the complaint, and her lover, Meenaketan Nayak (38), were arrested. The hammer used in the murder was seized.
Nishamani and Sukanti had been married for approximately 17 years following an elopement. They lived in a rented house in Ramachandra Nagar after their own home was damaged, and they both worked for the same company. Accused lover Meenaketan also worked at the same company. Four years ago, Sukanti and Meenaketan developed a romantic relationship. The affair was well-known as they were often seen together. Nishamani, the victim, stopped Sukanti from going to work, causing issues between the lovers. Meenaketan would visit Sukanti when no one was home, and Nishamani became aware of this. He scolded Sukanti and forbade her from meeting Meenaketan. However, Meenaketan continued to follow Nishamani and Sukanti.

The lovers finally plan to kill Nishamani. Sukanti called Meenaketan and gave him Rs. 500, instructing him to get Nishamani drunk and murder him on his way back from work. Meenaketan took Nishamani to a liquor den on his bike, where they drank heavily. After some distance, he stopped the bike on a deserted road and attacked Nishamani with a hammer from behind, hitting him repeatedly before fleeing the scene, leaving Nishamani’s body on the roadside. Meenaketan then took Nishamani’s mobile and went home.
After the murder, Sukanti filed a police complaint to divert suspicion, while Meenaketan, who had been living normally with his wife and children, even went to work the next morning without arousing any suspicion. Police, through various investigations, arrested Meenaketan from the company premises. Both accused have been taken to court. It has been revealed that Sukanti is six months pregnant.
The incident occurred when Nishamani Budhu’s body was discovered yesterday morning on a rural road in Kudapada, near Rengali police station. Bloodstains were found throughout the body, leading police to suspect a planned murder by bludgeoning with a stone. Following the family’s complaint, a murder case was filed, and a scientific team arrived on the scene to investigate.
