Odia Language to be Used for Government Work, ‘Odia Asmita Bhawan’ will be Set Up: Chief Minister
Odisha’s new Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, assumed office at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar on Thursday, entering the building wearing traditional headgear and beginning work in his third-floor chamber. He announced several initiatives to promote and preserve Odia’s culture and language.
Majhi declared that all government work will now be conducted in Odia, with steps to be taken to promote its widespread use. He emphasized the importance of cultural development alongside material progress, promising to amend laws if necessary to support this goal.
The Chief Minister announced plans to establish a Paika Rebellion Academy in Barunei and develop Swaraj. He also promised to reorganize the Odia Language Institute and prioritize appointing Odia teachers in high schools across the state.

Majhi outlined plans to restore and reorganize the literature, music, drama, and fine arts academies, focusing on improving their efficiency. He announced the formation of a Language Commission and the creation of a Translation Academy and Asmita Bhavan to promote Odia literature and identity.
Other initiatives include activating the Odissi Research Centre, encouraging high-quality research on Odia language and culture, and expanding the library movement to improve reading habits. The Chief Minister also emphasized the use of modern, simple, and user-friendly technologies to support language development.
Majhi has invited public feedback on steps to develop Odia’s identity further, demonstrating his government’s commitment to a comprehensive approach to strengthening Odia’s language, culture, and heritage while pursuing the overall development of the state.
