Sambalpur: Sambalpur in Distress with Slight Rain, No Drainage System, Water Gathering Everywhere

Sambalpur: The city of Sambalpur is experiencing severe waterlogging due to haphazard road construction. The roads, which were built without proper drainage and rainwater flow, have resulted in water accumulation even during light rainfall. This oversight has resulted in several streets in the city being submerged, causing significant inconvenience to residents.

On Sunday night, light rain caused severe waterlogging in Badabazar, Khetrarajpur, Budharaja, and Shanti Nagar, in front of the District Collector’s Office, Jail Chowk, and various colonies and areas. The rain caused water to overflow into the streets, making it difficult for people to commute. Vehicles passing through these areas splashed water on pedestrians, worsening the situation.

Despite the rain stopping, water remained stagnant on the roads until the morning. The situation gradually improved as the water receded slowly. However, with heavy rains expected, the city is on high alert. The weather department has issued heavy rainfall warnings, raising concerns about additional waterlogging in the city.

On Saturday afternoon, Sambalpur experienced unusual rain patterns. While the city center remained dry, areas like Budharaja and Ainthapali received an hour of heavy rain, causing water streams on the roads. National Highway 53 was flooded, giving the illusion of a river.
