Sambalpur: Youth Embrace Poultry; Broiler and Egg Farming on the Rise in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: Interest in poultry farming is growing among the people of Sambalpur district. This increase in interest is seen as a positive sign, especially when silver production is declining.
Dependency on Other States for Eggs and Chicken
Sambalpur district still depends on other states for eggs and chicken meat. Eggs are mainly sourced from other districts and states. The price of eggs and chicken meat per kilogram is rising as transportation costs rise. Because this business is extremely profitable, there is a growing interest among the youth in broiler chicken farming, egg-laying poultry farming, and poultry feed preparation projects.
Success of Government Initiatives
According to data from the Department of Animal Resources Development, 22 people have benefited from broiler chicken farming through the Chief Minister’s Agriculture Enterprise Scheme. Similarly, one farmer has benefited from government schemes for egg-laying poultry farming. Furthermore, significant progress occurred in broiler chicken farming, egg-laying poultry farming, small poultry feed production centers, and backyard poultry farming during the fiscal years 2021-22 and 2022-23.
