Sambalpur: SMC Negligence; Garbage Remains Uncollected During Bahuda Yatra
Sambalpur: On Monday, the grand Bahuda Yatra of Lord Jagannath was celebrated. This festival, which is observed worldwide, had special events organized in Sambalpur. To ensure a peaceful celebration, the police had made extensive arrangements.
SMC’s Negligence
However, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) failed to clean up the garbage along the procession routes. Prior to the Rath Yatra, administrative preparation meetings were held, and the routes for the return journey of the deities were communicated to the authorities. Despite this, SMC did not clean the designated paths.

Garbage Along the Procession Routes
For the Dhanupali to Gobindtola Rath Yatra, the route from Dhanupali to Gobindtola was transformed into a grand avenue. However, instead of preparing the route by sprinkling bleaching powder, heaps of garbage were seen accumulating. Devotees observed the procession amidst piles of trash, highlighting the poor maintenance by SMC.
Public Reaction
Advocate Pradeep Bahidar expressed his reaction, stating that this situation exemplifies SMC’s negligence. He criticized the corporation, claiming that the condition of all city roads remained similarly neglected. This issue has sparked discontent among the citizens and devotees.
