Sambalpur: Sambalpur Turns into Garbage City as SMC Fails to Act; Residents Take Matters into Their Own Hands
Garbage Piling Up in Sambalpur
Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has failed to clean the city. Regular garbage collection from various areas does not occur. As a result, garbage accumulates on the roads every day. The accumulation not only produces a foul odor but also attracts swarms of flies. For example, near Dhanupali School on the Sambalpur-Sonepur main road, the situation is stark. The city’s residents are deeply concerned about the garbage accumulation. Despite multiple complaints, SMC has taken no action. No cleaning crews are coming to the affected areas. As a result, local residents are forced to clean their own garbage.

Shantinagar Area Faces Similar Issues
People can find similar conditions in Shantinagar. The SMC has turned about 500 meters of the road away from the main road in Shantinagar into an unofficial dumping ground. Even a light breeze scatters garbage across the road. Despite repeated notification to SMC workers, no one has listened to the local residents. Finally, on Thursday, volunteers from the Tarun Vidyarthi Shakha organized a cleanup effort. Volunteers Bhima Bhai, Haripala, Ashutosh Panda, Akash Padhi, Kaushik Sahu, Dhiren Pradhan, and Rudra Karn, among others, participated in the effort to remove the accumulated garbage, led by service leaders Bishwaranjan Jena and San Chhatriya.
By taking these proactive steps, the volunteers are trying to make a significant difference in maintaining cleanliness in Sambalpur, despite the inaction of the SMC.
