Inspection of the Second Treasure Vault
Yesterday, an 11-member authorized team entered the vault and opened the second treasure chamber. During this inspection, the team observed four cupboards and three trunks inside the vault. Additionally, a cot for placing the deity was found. All items have been temporarily relocated to an alternate treasure vault.
Historical Significance and Relocation
According to legend, during Kapilendra Dev’s reign, after conquering the southern regions, the king returned with 16 elephants laden with jeweled ornaments, which he dedicated to Lord Jagannath. Furthermore, it is believed that various Gajapati kings of Utkal, after conquering multiple states, returned crowns and other valuables to defeated kings. These items are believed to be stored in the Ratna Bhandar.
Mystery of the Hidden Tunnel
However, the most intriguing aspect is that, following yesterday’s inspection, the Gajapati did not completely rule out the possibility of a hidden tunnel within the inner vault. He stated that if the ASI performs a laser scanning, all relevant information will be revealed.
