Governor’s Address on the First Day

During the first day of the budget session, Governor Raghubar Das delivered his address, highlighting key initiatives and plans for the state. The government will create over 3.5 lakh job opportunities in Odisha by 2029. It will fill 65,000 government positions in the next two years. The state government aims to implement the State Education Policy, focusing on educational and human development.

Job Creation and Government Positions

The state plans to create over 3.5 lakh job opportunities by 2029. In the next two years, 65,000 government positions will be filled. The government will also emphasize sectors such as education, health, transport, and the preservation of Odia’s identity.

Ayushman Bharat and Health Initiatives

Odisha will soon implement the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, benefiting many citizens. Additionally, 3,000 new doctors will be appointed across the state. District hospitals will have specialized maternity and pediatric care. The government will rename the primary health centers ‘Arogya Mandir,’ and the state aims to eradicate malaria by 2030.

Education and Agriculture Focus

The government will implement the National Education Policy and formulate a state-level education policy to enhance the quality of education. For the empowerment of farmers, the government will include more beneficiaries in the PM-Kisan scheme, offering ₹3,100 per quintal for paddy. Cold storage facilities, processing units, and supply chains will be established. Mandis will have storage and rest houses for farmers. The government will also focus on teacher training and expanding digital infrastructure in rural areas.

Preservation of Odia Culture and Identity

The government will establish the Odia Asmita Bhavan and a palm-leaf manuscript museum. It will work towards preserving Jagannath’s culture and Odia’s identity.

Opposition’s Stand and Walkout

The opposition, including BJD and Congress, remained aggressive from the start. They protested, citing issues related to Odia’s identity and law and order. They eventually walked out during the Governor’s address, indicating a heated budget session ahead. The new government faces the challenge of effectively managing the budget session amidst strong opposition.
