Sambalpur: Government Houses Up for Rent! Vimsar Authorities Stumped, Antisocial Elements Occupy Many Residences

Sambalpur: The government housing quarters at Burla Vimsar have become a source of controversy, with allegations of improper use and a lack of oversight by the authorities. Many people are reportedly renting out or occupying the quarters without authorization, and the situation has reached a critical point.

Allegations of Renting Out Government Quarters

Medical quarters, ranging from those assigned to Class IV employees to gazetted officers, are allegedly being rented out while the employees reside elsewhere. This situation raises concerns about the potential misuse of government properties. Reports indicate that some people are using these quarters for illegal activities, including immoral behavior and substance abuse.

Oversight Failures by Authorities

Despite these concerns, some claim that medical authorities have not prioritized addressing them. The officials appear to be unaware of the current state of these quarters, including who actually resides in them and whether they are being used for their intended purpose. Due to a lack of information, many quarters have been occupied or rented out without proper authorization.

Inadequate Housing for Employees

Employee housing shortages at Burla Vimsar continue to be a significant issue. While there are 146 houses for gazetted employees and 292 for Class III employees, the actual housing requirements far exceed these figures. Authorities failed to conduct a proper survey, resulting in inefficient quarter allocation and unauthorized occupations.

Need for Immediate Action

The public expects authorities to act decisively. They propose canceling the allocations for government houses that are being rented out or used illegally. They will then give these quarters to employees who genuinely need them.

Authorities’ Response

Professor Bhabagrahi Rath, Vimsar’s director, has acknowledged the problem. He stated that they are preparing a list of government buildings occupied illegally. He mentioned that if the assigned person does not reside in the quarter, they will conduct appropriate investigations. Dr. Rath promised to take immediate action to address these issues.
