Sambalpur: Sambalpur Under Bharat Bandh; Complete Shutdown of Shops, Schools, and Transport

Sambalpur: The India Bandh called by the Akhil Bharatiya Anusuchit Jati O Janjati Samanvay Samiti has brought the city to a standstill today. In response to the bandh, several private schools have declared a holiday, and school authorities are closely monitoring the situation as protestors enforce the strike in various areas. Loudspeakers blare across the city, urging citizens to support the bandh, while the public remains anxious and uncertain about the day’s developments.

Shops and Markets Shut Down Amid Uncertainty

Confusion reigns in the city as many shops and markets have already shut down, with business owners deciding to keep their establishments closed due to the ongoing unrest. Despite limited official communication, word has spread through the media and local networks, leading to a near-total shutdown of commercial activity. Traders and shopkeepers are hesitant to open their doors, waiting for the situation to stabilize before making any decisions.

Transportation and Services Disrupted

The bandh has also severely impacted transportation services in the city. Protesters have blocked railway tracks since early morning, halting train services. They have also stopped all bus operations. This has left citizens stranded, forcing them to struggle to find alternative transportation. Banks, post offices, and other essential services are operating at a reduced capacity, with many workers unable to reach their workplaces due to the strike.

Peaceful but Determined Protest

The bandh is being observed peacefully, but the determination of the protestors is evident. Leaders of the coordination committee have reiterated their stance, urging the public to support their cause against the perceived weakening of the unity of Adivasi and Dalit communities and the disrespect towards Babasaheb Ambedkar. The protesters have vowed to continue their demonstration until authorities meet their demands. They specifically insist on maintaining the current reservation system and creamy layer classification, arguing that only Parliament can modify these policies.
