Sambalpur: Former Soldier Assaults Mo Bus Driver in Sambalpur; Incident Caught on Video

Sambalpur: In a shocking incident today in Sambalpur, a youth allegedly assaulted a Mo Bus driver in the Goshala area of the Burla Police Station. The incident occurred on Mo Bus number 201 (OD 14 E 6863), which was traveling from Sambalpur to Chipilima near the Sahajbahal Chhak in Basantpur Panchayat. The accused, identified as Chandrakanta Gouda of Chipilima and a former soldier, attacked the driver, resulting in a viral video of the incident. The incident sparked widespread condemnation, and the case has now been escalated to the police.

The Incident: A Detailed Account

According to sources, Varun Raut was driving passengers from Chipilima to Sambalpur when the accused, Chandrakanta, attempted to stop the bus near Sahajbahal Chowk. However, the driver continued driving because there was no bus stop at that location. Infuriated, Chandrakanta chased the bus, forcing it to stop at Sahajbahal Chowk. He then got on the bus and assaulted the driver for not stopping sooner. A female worker onboard recorded the entire altercation on her phone, which quickly went viral. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters.

The Complaint and Police Investigation

Following the assault, the driver and fellow drivers filed a formal complaint at Burla Police Station. Police have filed a case under case number 397/24 and launched an investigation into the matter.

The Accused’s Version of Events

Chandrakanta Gouda claimed that his eight-year-old daughter was on the bus from Chipilima. He had planned to pick her up at the Central Cattle Breeding Farm Chhak. However, when the bus did not stop as expected, he pursued it to Sahajbahal Chhak, where he confronted its driver. Varun, the driver, reportedly explained that the bus could only stop at specific locations and advised Chandrakanta to file a complaint with the Mo Bus office if he had any concerns. This resulted in a heated argument, which escalated into an assault.
