Sambalpur: Sambalpur Train Safety Threatened; Stone Pelting by Drunk Miscreants on Moving Train at Jagannath Colony Underpass

Sambalpur: On Thursday, Sambalpur witnessed a disturbing rise in criminal activities as intoxicated miscreants attacked a moving train with stones. The incident happened at the Jagannath Colony underpass as the Samaleshwari Express was departing from Khetrajpur station. Drunken youths sat atop the underpass and began throwing stones at the train, specifically the AC coach.

Previous Vandalism on Vande Bharat Express

This incident is not isolated; there have been previous reports of stone-pelting on the Vande Bharat Express, where train windows were shattered by similar attacks. The ongoing menace of such behavior highlights the miscreants’ growing boldness.

Guard Abused for Trying to Intervene

When the train guard tried to stop the stone-throwing, the miscreants hurled abusive language at him. The guard’s intervention was met with hostility, raising concerns about the safety of both railway employees and passengers.

Underpass: A Hub for Illicit Activities

The Jagannath Colony underpass has become a notorious hotspot for illegal activity. Young men regularly gather here to consume alcohol, cannabis, and other intoxicants. As the evening approaches, the number of these people grows, resulting in an increase in criminal activity, such as stone-throwing at trains.

Public Demands Strict Action

Local residents have repeatedly complained about the increase in illegal activity around the underpass, but authorities have yet to take decisive action. The situation necessitates immediate action by railway and police authorities to combat these illegal activities and ensure commuter safety.

Call for Increased Patrol and Enforcement

Given the frequency of these incidents, there is a growing call for more police patrols and stricter enforcement in the underpass area. The local population is urging the administration to address the issue of illegal substance sales and consumption in the city, which they believe is contributing to the increase in such crimes.
