Sambalpur: Beware…Naked Thief Roams at Night, CCTV Captures Incident in Sasan Police Station Area

Sambalpur: Beware! A naked thief has been seen roaming around during the night. He sneaks into houses at night, wearing a mask. After breaking through doors, he flees with valuables. Everything he sees is taken before he vanishes into the night. Such a scene was recently captured on CCTV in the Shasan police station area near Sambalpur. On the 30th of last month, a theft report was filed at the Shasan police station, highlighting the incident.

Incident Details: Thief Targets Shop in Sasan

The incident occurred late on the night of the 30th in the village of Ranikinda, which is under Shasan police jurisdiction. According to CCTV footage, a masked man entered the shop owned by Arun Agrawal while completely naked. With a bag slung over his shoulder, he spent some time attempting to break into the shop. After successfully breaking in, he looted the shop. It has been reported that all cosmetics were stolen from the shop. The thief stole ₹2,000, two boxes of face wash, one box of powder, a box of Dabur Amla oil, a box of Dabur toothpaste, and three boxes of various oils. According to Arun Agrawal, the stolen goods are estimated to be worth approximately ₹25,000.

Thief Sighted in Multiple Areas

This naked thief has been spotted not only in Sasan but also in nearby Pardhiapali and Sindurpank. People have avoided confronting the individual who is wandering naked because they believe he is mentally unstable. However, this appears to be a thief’s tactic to avoid suspicion. Locals believe that this person is deliberately acting mentally ill to commit thefts. It has also been reported that the same person had previously committed theft in the Sindurpank area, but no one paid much attention because they assumed he was mentally ill. However, CCTV footage captured his actions, revealing the truth. The thief disguises himself with a mask and goes naked to appear mentally unstable. Locals believe this has made his intentions clear.

Police Investigation Underway

According to Sambalpur Sadar SDPO Tofan Bag, such incidents have been reported in the Shasan police station area, prompting an investigation. Following the theft complaint, an investigation is ongoing, and the accused will be apprehended soon.

Targeting Non-Odias: A Disturbing Trend

The thief appears to be targeting non-Odias, particularly those who have established businesses on the city’s outskirts. He loots shops, houses, and major business establishments, whether armed or naked. Non-Odias, who are easily intimidated, have become a vulnerable target for this thief. Over the last four months, several businesses on the outskirts of Sambalpur have been looted. Mills and warehouses were among the target locations. The business community had previously protested these incidents. After 13 thefts in two months, Sambalpur police arrested the culprits and seized large sums of cash and gold jewelry.
