Sambalpur: Fight Against Tobacco; Vimsar Launches New Tobacco Cessation Centre to Help Smokers Quit

Sambalpur: On Tuesday, Union Health Minister Prataprao Yadav virtually inaugurated tobacco cessation centers in nearly 800 hospitals across the country, a significant step forward in the fight against tobacco use. This initiative aims to provide critical support to those seeking to quit smoking and improve public health outcomes.

During the event, Olympic athlete Manu Bhaker highlighted the dangers of tobacco use. She emphasized the importance of widespread awareness and commitment to overcoming tobacco addiction. Organizers held a pledge-taking ceremony to emphasize the importance of the cause.

Tobacco Cessation Centre Opens at Vimsar

In this context, Vimsar (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) has established its own tobacco cessation center. Several distinguished individuals attended the inaugural ceremony at Vimsar, including Vimsar Director Dr. Bhavagrahi Rath, Chairperson Dr. Pradeep Mohanty, and Head of the Department of Dental Surgery, Dr. Prashant Swaine, who also serves as the nodal officer for the tobacco cessation campaign.

The event was attended by Dr. Lal Mohan Nayak, the hospital’s Superintendent, Dr. Smita Panda, Head of the Department of Community Medicine, and Dr. Birendra Narayan Nayak, Head of the Department of Psychiatry. Furthermore, Dr. Satarupa Dash from the Department of Physiology and the entire team from the Department of Dental Surgery took part in the event, reflecting the hospital’s collective support for the initiative.
