Separate Accidents at Ainthapali Bus Stand and Tali Chowk
Locals Blame Delay in Overbridge Construction
Sambalpur: Ainthapali Crossing has become a death trap. The roads near Tali Chowk and Remed Tali Chowk in Sambalpur have become hazardous due to reckless driving and uncontrolled traffic. Two people have died in separate incidents. A 25-year-old man died near the Ainthapali Bus Stand, and a 55-year-old man died at Tali Chowk. Their bodies were recovered and sent for a post-mortem. In addition, one person is being treated in critical condition.
An accident occurred last night, around 2 a.m., near the Ainthapali Bus Stand. Anup Singh (25), a Sai Nagar resident on Dengsargi Road, was killed in the accident. Bishudev Singh’s son was named Anup. Satyendra Pandey (25), his co-rider, is in critical condition and undergoing treatment. Although the exact cause of the accident is unknown, initial police investigations indicate that the bike lost balance and collided with a divider. However, locals believe an unidentified vehicle collided with the bike, causing the accident.
Just three hours later, in the early hours of the morning, another fatal accident occurred at Tali Chowk. Suresh Nayak (55) of Dunguripara, Rengali, was struck by an unknown vehicle while walking. According to the police, a large vehicle ran over his head, leading to his death.

Frequent Accidents in the Area
These are not isolated incidents; accidents like this are becoming more common in this area. The Transportation Department has designated the area as a ‘black spot,’ but accidents continue to occur in the absence of any preventative measures. Every day, Tali Chowk witnesses more than four accidents, minor and major. Reckless driving, poor traffic management, and vehicle overloading are major causes of these accidents, but no action is taken. Locals are also concerned about how the district’s regional transportation office (RTO) operates. There are allegations that the RTO focuses solely on paperwork, such as issuing driver’s licenses and other documents while failing to prosecute overloaded or reckless vehicles. Illegal parking on the roadside is also a factor contributing to the increase in accidents, according to local residents.
Reckless Two-Wheeler Riders Causing Havoc
Unsafe two-wheeler riders are wreaking havoc in the city. Many people ride under the influence of alcohol, causing accidents that endanger the public. On Wednesday evening, a speeding biker (vehicle number OD 15 T 9078) hit a scooter rider from behind on the Ainthapali-Budharaja road. Fortunately, the scooter rider was unhurt. It was later discovered that the same vehicle had three outstanding challans, confirming that the rider was a repeat offender. There is a growing demand for stricter penalties for such reckless drivers.
