Revenue Minister Calls for RERA Revisions to Simplify Land Sales, Brokers Warned of Strict Action
The Odisha Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) is looking into ways to revise its rules to make land purchases and sales easier in the state. Suresh Pujari, Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management, mentioned this during a recent visit to Sambalpur, where he discussed potential changes with the Urban Development Department.
Need for Rule Revisions in RERA
Suresh Pujari stated that certain RERA rules are currently too restrictive. He emphasized that people frequently face difficulties when they need to sell their land in an emergency, such as for medical treatment, children’s education, or their daughters’ marriage. Pujari emphasized the importance of reform to address these issues. He stated that the Revenue and Urban Development Departments are working together to identify the best possible solutions.

Outsourcing Issues Affecting Land Transactions
The Minister also expressed concern about the e-registration process, which had been outsourced. He explained that the previous government’s decision to outsource had resulted in numerous issues. Third-party services have forced people to rely on them, resulting in numerous complaints.
Pujari also criticized the outsourcing company for paying extremely low wages to its employees. He claimed that low wages encourage workers to engage in dishonest behavior, which ultimately affects land buyers and sellers.
Strict Action Against Land Brokers
Pujari issued a stern warning, announcing that land brokers would no longer be permitted inside government offices. He promised to take strict action against brokers and stop them from interfering with land transactions.
This move aims to protect ordinary citizens from exploitation and make the process of buying and selling land in Odisha more efficient.
