Sambalpur: Asocial Elements Beware; CCTV Cameras to be Installed at Every Intersection of Sambalpur

Tenders Finalized, Installation to Start Soon: Commissioner
Over 100 advanced CCTV cameras will be installed at 24 key locations

Sambalpur: Asocial elements, beware! High-capacity CCTV cameras will soon be installed at every intersection in Sambalpur. Criminals, thieves, and reckless drivers will be closely monitored, leaving them with no escape. Over 100 CCTV cameras will monitor miscreants at every major intersection, and the police will use the footage to ensure safety. Authorities will no longer use private CCTV cameras. The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) has already begun the tender process for installing these cameras in 24 prominent locations throughout the city. According to Commissioner Vedabhusan, installation will begin immediately following the completion of the tender process.

Locations for CCTV Installation

CCTV cameras and traffic control cameras will be installed at key intersections including Ainthapali, Talichowk, Bareipali, Remed, Laxmi Talkies, and Mudipada. These cameras will make identifying traffic violators and asocial elements easier. CCTV cameras will also be installed in Danipali, Gopalmal, Panchagachhia, Bhutapada, Jail Chowk, Dhanupali, Dhanakauda, Samaleswari Temple Chowk, Mandalia, College Chowk, Nelson Mandela Chowk, Bhalupali, City Station, Gunderpur, Durgapali, Sindurpank, Maneswar, Church Chowk, and Hanuman Temple Chowk.

High-Tech Cameras to Be Deployed

Commissioner Vedabhusan also stated that 80 high-capacity CCTV cameras, 10 facial recognition cameras, 30x zoom cameras with a 200-meter surveillance range, and 12 high-resolution traffic control cameras would be installed at these intersections. Furthermore, discussions are underway to increase the number of cameras as necessary. The tender process has been simplified to make it easier to install additional CCTV cameras at future locations.

CCTV Surveillance in Sambalpur

Since the establishment of the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation in 2018, CCTV surveillance has received increased importance. At the time, 63 CCTV cameras were installed at various intersections throughout the city, but many have since stopped working. Some of these cameras were recently repaired. Unlike other major cities such as Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where CCTV is widely used for security, Sambalpur has yet to fully embrace CCTV surveillance. However, it has been shown to be effective in other cities in solving serious crimes such as car thefts and murders. Despite the city’s growing importance, Sambalpur continues to lack comprehensive CCTV coverage.
