Sambalpur: Blood Shortage Crisis Hits Vimsar Once Again, Calls for Immediate Action

Sambalpur: After a brief interval, Vimsar in Burla faces a severe blood shortage yet again. As of Thursday, not a single unit of blood was available in the Vimsar blood bank, leaving authorities deeply concerned about how to provide blood for critical patients. Without blood donation camps, the shortage remains unresolved.

High Demand from Neighboring Regions

Vimsar receives many patients from Western Odisha and neighboring states such as Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. Thousands are treated here every day. In addition to Vimsar patients, over five private nursing homes in the area use the hospital’s blood bank. With the capacity to store over 1,200 units, the blood bank typically requires approximately 110 units per day to meet demand. However, no single unit is currently available.

Recurrent Crisis in Vimsar Blood Bank

This is not the first time Vimsar has faced such a situation. Last month, a similar crisis led to media coverage, prompting blood donation drives that helped replenish the blood bank. Now, the situation has again reached a critical stage. Without new donation camps, patients will continue to struggle, raising calls for immediate action. Authorities are being urged to organize blood donation camps promptly.

Efforts from Nearby Blood Banks

In response to the shortage, some critically ill patients received blood from Sambalpur’s blood bank. The Vimsar administration has also asked local volunteer organizations to organize donation camps to help stabilize the blood supply.
