Sambalpur: Bike Theft Racket Exposed in Sambalpur; 16 Stolen Bikes Seized, One Arrested

Overview of the Case

Sambalpur: Police have cracked down on a bike theft racket, making a significant arrest in Sambalpur. The Ainthapali Police Station officers apprehended Sudarshan Sahu, also known as Nini, a 26-year-old from Khajuraipada, Sambalpur. Following his arrest, they presented him in court. Alongside his capture, the police also managed to recover 16 stolen bikes. According to SDPO Tofan Bag, the recovered bikes were reported stolen from different areas, including Sambalpur and Boudh.

The Method of Working

Many people park their vehicles in secure areas, lock them with double locks, and then go about their day, assuming their bikes are safe. Sudarshan, on the other hand, found it easy to break the locks and ride away. Several bike theft complaints have surfaced in recent days, particularly in high-traffic areas such as Tata Nagar petrol pumps and the Singh Petrol Tank parking area. These repeated incidents posed a significant challenge for the police.

Police Investigation and Breakthrough

During their investigation, the police were able to intercept a bike with the license plate OD-31-H-6494, which had been reported stolen. As a result, they discovered Sudarshan and his associates’ involvement in systematically breaking locks and stealing bikes with remarkable skill. They had been selling these stolen bikes in specific areas of Boudh district.

The Widening Scope of the Theft Racket

The bike theft racket is not limited to Sambalpur. It has spread to several districts in western Odisha. Sudarshan and his gang have been unlocking vehicles in various locations for years, stealing them easily, and escaping undetected. Police are currently looking for another key suspect who is still on the run.
