Sambalpur: SMC Demolished 17 Houses in Commissioner Colony for Town Hall Construction
Sambalpur: In Sambalpur city, the Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) demolished 17 houses in Commissioner Colony today. These houses had been previously asked to vacate in earlier demolitions, but the residents had returned and rebuilt their homes.
Demolition Action
The demolition started at 7:30 AM and continued until 1:30 PM. The local women strongly protested against the demolition, creating a tense atmosphere, although no untoward incidents occurred. According to sources, the demolitions were carried out to clear the area for the construction of a new town hall near Satyanarayana Bohidar Park, which will have 500 seating capacity.

Reason for Demolition
The SMC stated that the demolitions were necessary as the land where the town hall is planned could not be cleared due to these unauthorized constructions. The SMC took the action as part of the ongoing effort to remove encroachments.
Police Presence
The police deployed at the site to ensure the law and order situation remained under control during the demolition. The SMC emphasized that it carried out the demolition in accordance with legal procedures.
