Sambalpur: Seven CCTV Cameras Fail at Khetrajpur Railway Station, SP’s Warnings Unheard
Sambalpur: Despite being called a major railway hub under the East Coast Railway, the Khetrajpur Railway Station in Sambalpur, Odisha, faces a critical issue with its CCTV cameras. Although the railway department spends crores of rupees on station upgrades, the Khetrajpur station’s CCTV system remains ineffective. Out of the 16 CCTV cameras installed at the station, seven are currently out of order, creating security risks as criminal groups take advantage of the lack of surveillance.
SP’s Repeated Warnings Ignored
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Sambalpur has repeatedly informed railway authorities about the faulty CCTV cameras, but no significant action has been taken to resolve the issue. Without adequate surveillance, police struggle to identify criminals fleeing after committing thefts or other crimes at the station.

Limited CCTV Coverage and Poor Quality
In total, only 16 CCTV cameras have been installed, covering various areas of the station, including entry gates and waiting areas. However, seven of these cameras are not working, which means several important areas within the station lack proper monitoring. Furthermore, the remaining cameras have limited capabilities, making it difficult to clearly identify individuals.
Rising Crime Rate at Khetrajpur Station
Crime at Khetrajpur station has increased due to a lack of reliable CCTV surveillance. Police rely on CCTV footage to track down criminals, but the cameras’ poor functionality impedes their investigations. To make matters worse, the quality of the operational cameras is insufficient to capture clear images of suspects, making identification difficult.
For improved safety, Khetrajpur Railway Station requires a larger number of high-quality CCTV cameras with proper maintenance. Upgrading the CCTV system would help authorities control the rising crime rates and enhance security for passengers and station personnel.
