Sambalpur: Drains Overflow with Garbage in Sambalpur; Open Drains Turn Into Dustbins, Residents Demand Action from Authorities

Sambalpur: The Sambalpur Municipal Corporation (SMC) is under scrutiny as questions about cleanliness in the city continue to rise. Despite spending crores of rupees annually on sanitation, visible results remain disappointing. Problems like uncollected garbage, clogged drains, and unhygienic conditions are becoming common in several areas of the city.

Garbage Management Fails to Deliver

The Municipal Corporation has implemented measures like regular street cleaning, household garbage collection, and even separate initiatives for collecting waste from commercial establishments. However, these efforts have not shown much impact. Garbage is still piling up across business areas, creating an eyesore for residents and visitors alike.

Drains Turn Into Dustbins

A striking example of this issue is the main road in Budharaja, where open drains have effectively become dustbins. These drains are now overflowing with garbage, and the waste has started spilling onto the streets. The lack of regular drain cleaning by the authorities has worsened the problem. Residents complain that SMC is failing to ensure proper sanitation despite their repeated appeals.

Public Demands Action

Locals are urging the Municipal Corporation to take strict action against commercial establishments that violate waste management norms. They also demand regular drain cleaning and a systematic approach to solving these recurring problems. Without immediate intervention, the situation may continue to deteriorate.
