Sambalpur: Youth Drowns During Survey Operation in Mahanadi Near Chaunrpur; Questions Raised Over Life Jacket Rule Violations
Sambalpur: A tragic incident occurred near Chaunrpur in Sambalpur, where a young man drowned in the Mahanadi River. The victim has been identified as Krishna Murari from Chhattisgarh.
Incident Details
According to the Fire Department, a survey was underway near the Chaunrpur area of the riverbed. Workers from a private firm were conducting the survey near the Chaunrpur bridge. Around 2 PM, four employees attempted to transport some equipment using a boat. However, the boat lost balance and capsized in the river.

Rescue Efforts
While some workers managed to swim to safety, Krishna Murari was trapped underwater. The Fire Department promptly arrived at the scene and conducted a rescue operation. By 5 PM, they recovered Krishna’s body from the river and transported him to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Safety Concerns
The incident has raised questions about safety protocols. Regulations mandate the use of life jackets during river crossings. However, the workers were reportedly not wearing life jackets at the time of the accident. This oversight has sparked concerns about the negligence in following safety measures.
