Sambalpur: Students Protest Against Question Paper Leak at GM University; Irregularities in Semester Exam Management, Negligence by Authorities
Exam Scheduled Incorrectly
Sambalpur: A major mismanagement occurred in GM University during the semester exams. The Communicative English exam for BBA students was scheduled for the 4th but was conducted on the 3rd instead. Surprisingly, the university authorities were unaware of this mistake until later. Once identified, the university issued a notice canceling the exam, sparking discontent among the students.
Notice Issued and Student Agitation
Following the cancellation, the university announced that the exam would be rescheduled for the 12th. This announcement provoked strong protests from student organizations, including the Progressive GMU and the BJD student wing. They demonstrated in front of the university’s administrative office, blocking faculty members from entering.
The students blamed the university’s negligence for the error and questioned why they should bear the consequences. They demanded immediate action against the Examination Controller, Assistant Examination Controller, and the Head of the BBA Department. Additionally, they insisted the postponed exam be canceled entirely and instead suggested awarding grace marks.

Sequence of Events
The Communicative English exam for BBA students, initially scheduled for the 4th, was mistakenly conducted on the 3rd by the BBA department. This led to concerns about a question paper leak, as many students became aware of the questions beforehand. Upon discovering the error, the university canceled the exam on the 4th and rescheduled it for the 12th, prompting widespread student protests.
Student Protests Intensify
Leaders such as Lambodar Meher, Shubham Sahu, Karan Sahu, Aryaman Das, Anshuman Sahu, and others spearheaded the protests. They gave a 24-hour ultimatum to cancel the rescheduled exam, warning of larger demonstrations if their demands were ignored.
University Acknowledges Mistake
The Examination Controller admitted to the oversight, stating that the BBA department conducted the exam mistakenly and without proper communication. He assured students that the university was addressing the issue. Despite attempts by university officials like Registrar Sanat Nayak and PG Council Chairperson Gyanaranjan Swain to pacify the students, the unrest continued.
The students remain firm in their demands for accountability and grace marks. If the university fails to meet their demands within the stipulated time, the agitation may escalate further, disrupting academic activities.
