Chief Minister Receives Demands in Sambalpur Violence Case

Sambalpur: A memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister today, demanding action against police officers involved in the 2023 Hanuman Jayanti violence in Sambalpur. A group of concerned citizens submitted the memorandum through the District Collector, accusing specific police officers of instigating violence against a particular community during Hanuman Jayanti celebrations.

Key Allegations Against Police

The memorandum alleged that the police, including the then IGP, SP, Additional SP, Sadar SDPO, Dhanupali IIC, an SI, and an ASI, along with his son, played a significant role in inciting the violence. It stated that the incidents involved a planned attack on the Hanuman Jayanti bike rally, a brutal assault on Damodar Kar, an official of the Hanuman Jayanti Samiti, and the murder of a tribal youth, which also left another person seriously injured. These actions, the citizens claimed, disrupted Sambalpur’s peaceful atmosphere.

Calls for Immediate Action

The demands outlined in the memorandum include:

  1. Immediate Withdrawal of False Cases: The government must withdraw all false cases filed against innocent Hanuman devotees and workers who were unjustly jailed during the violence.
  2. Demolition of Illegal Structures: Houses and shops illegally built on government land by those involved in violence must be demolished.
  3. Strict Action Against Perpetrators: Authorities must take action against those who threw stones or used bombs during the Hanuman Jayanti procession.

Focus on Cow Slaughter and Smuggling

Addressing cow slaughter concerns in Sambalpur, the memorandum revealed 23 active slaughterhouses killing 3,000 cows monthly. It called for immediate shutdown of these facilities and strict action against cattle smuggling to Bengal and Bangladesh, allegedly facilitated by police and transport officials.

Addressing Bangladeshi Infiltration

Citizens expressed concern about the presence of approximately 10,000 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in Sambalpur and demanded their identification and deportation, along with the removal of their names from the voter list. Additionally, they highlighted the unauthorized operation of buses from Murshidabad to Sambalpur and called for immediate action to halt such activities.

Request for National Investigation

The memorandum stressed the need for strict action based on the findings of the National Investigation Team that investigated the Sambalpur violence. It also urged the Chief Minister to recommend an NIA probe into the Hanuman Jayanti violence to ensure justice and punish the guilty.

Release of Dara Singh

The memorandum demanded the release of Dara Singh, who has been serving a 24-year jail term.

Delegation Meets Collector

The delegation, led by Anil Behera, submitted the memorandum to the District Collector. Members of the group included Phanibhushan Mishra, Sameer Babu, Arun Das, Hira Singh, Bishwaranjan Jena, Rudra Karna, Malkit Singh, Sushant Bhoi, Hari Haripal, Rajveer Singh, and Subodh Singh.

The citizens emphasized that these actions would restore peace and justice in Sambalpur.
