Sambalpur: Government Press Office Closes in Sambalpur; Local Residents Concerned

Background and Purpose of the Office

Sambalpur: In June 2018, the Odisha government opened a government press branch office in Sambalpur. The primary aim of this office was to distribute various forms, including government calendars, to regions located over 300 kilometers away, such as Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Sundargarh. The office helped streamline the distribution process, enabling local government offices to receive these materials without sending employees to distant offices in Cuttack.

Closure of the Office Sparks Opposition

However, news has surfaced that the government plans to shut down this office, which has sparked opposition from the citizens of Sambalpur. The closure of this office would upset locals, as it has efficiently distributed forms and calendars to them. If the government closes this office, people in these districts would find it much more difficult to receive government forms and materials.

Consequences for the Public

The closure of the office would also be a disadvantage to the general public. For instance, the government calendars, which were previously distributed efficiently from this office, would become harder to access. This could cause inconvenience and dissatisfaction among the public, particularly since people in the region have grown accustomed to this service.

Impact on Local Government Work

Currently, there are only two employees working at the Sambalpur branch office. One of them was recently transferred, leaving the office reliant on a single assistant to carry out its duties. The closure or relocation of the office would make it more difficult for local government offices to get the required forms, potentially causing delays. Frequent travel to Cuttack to collect forms will increase travel costs, waste time in transit, and burden the local government.

Appeal to the Chief Minister

Citizens from Khetrajpur have written to the Chief Minister, asking them to keep the office open for the community’s benefit.
