E-detection system to be enforced from February 1; strict action against uninsured vehicles

Strict Measures for Non-Compliance

Cuttack: Starting February 1, vehicles without valid insurance will be identified through an advanced e-detection system at toll gates. This system will automatically detect non-insured vehicles and issue e-challans in the name of the vehicle owner. The initiative aims to ensure compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act and promote road safety.

Mandatory Insurance for All Vehicles

According to Section 146 of the Motor Vehicles Act, every motor vehicle must have valid insurance. Violators may face penalties under Section 196, including a fine of Rs. 2,000, imprisonment for up to three months, or both. Repeated violations can lead to a fine of Rs. 4,000, three months of imprisonment, or both.

Enhanced Monitoring at Toll Gates

The e-detection system, already operational for identifying permit, fitness, and tax violations, will now also track vehicles without insurance. This system will be implemented at 22 toll gates across various national highways in the state. Owners of uninsured vehicles are advised to obtain insurance immediately to avoid penalties.

Impact on Road Accident Victims

Many private and commercial vehicles fail to renew their insurance, leaving accident victims’ families without compensation. To address this issue, the State Transport Authority has decided to take stricter action against defaulters. Modern technology and advanced enforcement tools will be used for effective monitoring.

Advisory from State Transport Authority

With approximately 90 lakh registered vehicles on the roads in the state, the transport department has no exact data on how many are uninsured. The department urges all vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are insured. Immediate compliance will not only avoid penalties but also ensure protection for accident victims and their families.

Make sure your vehicle has valid insurance to comply with the law and avoid unnecessary fines!
