Sambalpur: Three-Year-Old Abhinandan Diagnosed with Blood Cancer; Poor Parents Seek Financial Help
Family’s Struggles
Sambalpur: Prithviraj Bhoi, a resident of Sakhipara in Sambalpur, works as a mason while his wife, Jyotsna Bhoi, takes care of their home. Unfortunately, they do not have a ration card due to an error in their Aadhaar card. As a result, they also lack a health card, making medical treatment difficult. However, their biggest concern right now is their 3-year-old son, Abhinandan, who has been diagnosed with leukemia (blood cancer).
Diagnosis and Medical Recommendation
A few days ago, Abhinandan developed sores in his mouth, which unexpectedly burst and bled. Worried, his parents took him to the Sambalpur District Hospital. The doctors there referred him to Vimsar (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) in Burla for further tests. At Vimsar, doctors confirmed that the child had leukemia and advised his parents to take him to Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer in Cuttack for urgent treatment.

Ration and Health Card Issues
Prithviraj’s mother had a ration card under the government’s Food Security Scheme. However, after Prithviraj’s marriage, his name was removed from it. When Jyotsna applied for a new ration card, errors in her Aadhaar card—related to her age and name spelling—caused delays. Despite multiple attempts to correct these mistakes through the postal department, no action was taken. Without a corrected Aadhaar card, they cannot apply for a new ration card, and since the state government has temporarily stopped issuing new ration cards, getting one in the future seems difficult.
Because they do not have a ration card, they are also ineligible for a health card. This means they cannot access free or subsidized treatment for their son’s cancer, leaving them in a desperate situation.
Appeal for Financial Assistance
Yesterday, Prithviraj met with the District Collector, Siddheshwar Baliram Bondar, and explained his situation. After learning about the family’s struggles, the collector immediately sanctioned Rs. 20,000 from the Red Cross Fund. However, cancer treatment requires a much larger amount, and the family is still in urgent need of financial support.
Prithviraj is now appealing for help. He has requested individuals or organizations willing to support his son’s treatment to contribute to his SBI bank account: 43769420342. Any assistance will be a lifeline for little Abhinandan.
