Sambalpur: The only cinema hall (Eylex) in Sambalpur city has been forcefully shut down, causing concern among local residents. Today, the cinema hall authorities filed a complaint with the District Collector and Superintendent of Police (SP) regarding this issue.
Sudden Closure Without Prior Notice
According to the cinema hall management, on the night of the 30th, around 10:30 PM, the mall authorities suddenly shut down the Eylex cinema hall without giving any prior notice. Moreover, they disconnected essential services such as electricity, internet, servers, and CCTV connections. Shockingly, they even locked the cinema hall’s office, which contained important documents and cash.

Food Wasted Due to Closure
Since the cinema hall has remained closed, various food and beverage items stored on the premises have been wasted. The cinema hall authorities claim that shutting down the hall without any official notice is unfair. Therefore, they have demanded immediate action from the District Collector and SP.
Ongoing Dispute Over Rent Payments
Notably, a dispute has been ongoing between the mall owner and the cinema hall management over rent payments, especially related to the COVID-19 period. In the past, the mall owner has reportedly shut down the cinema hall multiple times due to this issue. Now, the conflict over pending rent has once again escalated, leading to this sudden closure.
