Sambalpur: A shocking murder case has surfaced in Sambalpur, where a man set his wife on fire using petrol while she was asleep. The accused, Prakash Tandi, has been arrested by the Dhanupali police and sent to court.
Incident Details
On Tuesday night around 11 PM, Prakash Tandi returned home in Motijharan, near B.Ed College hostel. Earlier that day, he had an argument with his wife, Anita. After dinner, Anita went to sleep under a mosquito net. Meanwhile, Prakash took petrol from his bike, filled a bottle, and poured it over Anita’s body. Without hesitation, he set her on fire.

Victim’s Condition and Death
Anita suffered 80% burns and screamed for help. Neighbors rushed to rescue her and immediately took her to the district hospital. Due to her critical condition, she was transferred to Burla Medical College and later to Cuttack SCB Medical College. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries in the evening.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Anita’s brother filed a complaint against Prakash, after which the police registered a case and arrested him. His bail request was rejected in court, and he was sent to judicial custody. Although the exact motive is unclear, police suspect an extramarital affair led to the murder.
